One way to keep up on color trends, not only for home interiors but exteriors, is to review the color of the year releases by Sherwin Williams, Ben Moore, HGTV, and PPG. Each company has its process for selecting the best color that defines the year. In most instances, the color of the year comes from a new color palette marketed toward home designers. In 2022, there was a common theme of a gray/green color to create a calm retreat for all working from home. However, this year we have a mixture of natural colors and bold, basically a color option for almost everyone. These colors aren’t just for the interior, so we took the time to brush them out on exterior siding products such as Fiber Cement and LP SmartSide. These colors can also be applied to natural wood siding using a paint formulated for exterior use over a high-quality primer. All colors shown can be factory finished (also known as pre-finishing).
Sherwin Williams: Redend Point SW9081
Redend Point is perfect if you’re looking for an exterior color that fits well with the desert southwest area but will work in other areas of the US as well. This beautiful earth-tone color is an excellent option for a full body color on a new home or remodel. Complementary colors include Kestrel White SW 7516, and Canyon Clay SW 6054. Redend Point is approved for interior and exterior applications with an LRV (Light reflecting value) of 30. Redend Point can be applied to LP SmartSide and James Hardie Fiber Cement.
Benjamin Moore: Raspberry Blush
Raspberry Blush (code 2008-30) from Ben Moore is a bold color, more red-orange to some and pink-red to others. When used on the exterior, this color would create a Caribbean-vibe beach house or be perfect for a fun commercial project. When trimmed in a bright white or even an off-white, it would make a bold statement with serious curb appeal. Raspberry Blush can be applied to LP SmartSide and James Hardie Fiber Cement.
HGTV Sherwin Williams: Darkroom
HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams color of the year is Darkroom HGSW 7083. This color is in the purple family. Its bold, dark color will look almost black in low-light situations. While this color could be used as a full body color, it would also do well as an accent or trim color. Sherwin Williams recommends complementary off-white colors such as Drift of Mist and Original White. This color is approved for interior and exterior use and has an LRV of 5. Darkroom can be applied to LP SmartSide or James Hardie Fiber Cement.
PPG: Vining Ivy
PPG’s 2023 Color of the Year is Vining Ivy. This beautiful dark green color would look great on a wide variety of exterior projects including a custom home or commercial project. It can be paired with a bright trim or natural wood accents to create a gorgeous project that will be sure to have the neighbors talking. Vining Ivy can be applied to LP SmartSide and James Hardie Fiber Cement.
Your custom home should be a reflection of you and your surroundings.
